If you are an avid gamer, you probably hate the fact that you cannot play your games when you are away from your desktop. With the advances that have been made in notebooks, good gaming laptops are becoming more and more sought after.  While the best of machines will run you a little over $1,000, there are still plenty of them on the market that will do the job for under $1,000.

Asus is a name that has been thrown to the forefront in recent months, especially with the popularity of netbooks.  While they were once considered the bottom of the barrel, they have been able to steadily upgrade their machines and now offer a very nice line of discount laptops for gaming.  As long as you are not expecting a machine that will sit side by side with an Alienware computer, you will be pleasantly surprised at what you find.

Asus currently offers two laptops for gaming that are actually both under $500.  The Asus K50IJ-RX05 and the Asus Eee PC 1005HA are both very respectable machines that will deliver a quality gaming experience.  The K50IJ has a better processor and more memory and for the extra $80 or so, it is well worth the price.  It is also much lighter than most standard gaming laptops.

If you insist on using a name brand, Dell Studio has a complete line that is very affordable.  The Dell Studio 15 Laptop Computer features an Intel Core Duo P8600 processor and 320 GB of HDD and 4GB of memory.  That is quite a punch for $799.  This machine is readily available, but paying double the price is a lot to ask for when you are getting virtually the same machine in the Asus K50IJ.  However, you do have the Dell name standing behind it.

A computer that you can find for under $700 is the Toshiba Satellite A505-S6960.  This is turning some heads and it is easy to figure out when you see that it has a 2.1 GHz processor and 4GB memory.  It is fairly light at 6.4 pounds and is significantly cheaper than most name brand models with the same features.  Toshiba’s sometimes get knocked for blacking out after prolonged usage and if you are used to playing for hours at a time, this is something that you may want to consider.

If you are not stuck on full sized laptops for gaming, you can save significant money by going with a netbook.  A lot of these mini’s offer most of the same features that the full sized models have at a significant disount.  For instance, you can find a great Dell mini at under $300 and an Asus in the low $200’s.  This is quite a discount for the smaller viewing area.

Gamers now have plenty of options when looking for good gaming laptops.  Technology continues to improve and prices continue to fall.  Look at the types of games that you play and what is necessary for a quality gaming experience and you should be able to walk away with a gaming laptop that will not disappoint for well under $1,000.
